The Farm Project empowers initiatives that reconnect people with food.
Why we started

At no point in our history have we known less about the food we eat. The story of the farmer, the journey from seed to shelf, and why it matters has largely been lost. Our food is grown out of sight and out of mind, disconnecting us from our agricultural roots. It’s often transported over thousands of miles and heavily processed before reaching our plates. Our current system makes it difficult to know what we’re eating, how fresh it is, where it came from and who grew it.
The Farm Project was founded by Zooey Deschanel and Jacob Pechenik with the mission to reconnect people with food. We want to make it easy for everyone to grow food themselves and connect directly with farmers in their communities. We aim to empower people to ask the right questions – because when we ask the right questions, we can make informed choices and vote with our dollars for a better food system.
